Union Township resident wants referendum on expanding board of supervisors

A Union Township resident has asked the Berks County Board of Elections to schedule a referendum to expand the township's board of supervisors to five members from three.
The request Marco Sanna filed Monday includes a petition bearing what Sanna says are the signatures of 201 township residents who support his proposal.

Antietam Lake dam repairs expected to cost less

Repairs to the dam at Antietam Lake are set to begin in about a month and will cost about $800,000 less than the $3.1 million estimate, the Berks County commissioners said Tuesday.
The commissioners said they plan to award a $2,290,699 contract to QEI Construction Group, Wyomissing, to do the work.

Berks student's logo shines on locally produced foods

The produce in one local grocery store chain has something new added to the label.
Soon it will be cropping up all over Berks County.
It is a Bountiful Berks logo that will identify produce grown and food products made by members of the Berks Agricultural Resource network, a nonprofit organization that supports agriculture.
