County asked to cancel overdue taxes on contaminated sites

More than $463,000 in past-due taxes on four properties should be removed from the books because environmental contamination prevents them from being sold at a tax claim sale, Berks County Treasurer Nelson H. Long said Tuesday.
Long told the Berks commissioners that the county's portion of the taxes is $60,828.
